X-mas Celebrations

God entered history in human form, fulfilling the Hebrew prophesies of long ago. The birth of Christ planted hope in the heart of history and in all our hearts.

The festive mood was all-pervading, twinkling lights everywhere – on homes, shops, roads, churches and some of the public buildings. Our Church wore a festive look with lanterns and colourful fairy-lights, buntings, Christmas trees and other decorations. Ringing of bells, prayers and carols heralded Christmas celebrations to mark the birth of infant Jesus at the stroke of midnight

Hundreds of men, women and children best streamed into brightly-lit church solemnly for the midnight mass and offer prayers for peace and prosperity of mankind. As part of the service, all the devotees attended a procession holding candles within the church premises. Rev. Fr. K M Varghese led the mass and wished parishioners peace, harmony and friendship.

Soon after the mass, parishioners cheerfully greeted their near and dear ones with a Merry Christmas.

Feast of St. Thomas

Holy Church commemorates Martyrdom of St Thomas on 21st December . Thomas the Apostle, also called Doubting Thomas or Didymus (meaning "Twin"), was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. He is best known for disbelieving Jesus' resurrection when first told of it and demands to touch Jesus' wounds before being convinced. After seeing Jesus alive, Thomas professed his faith in Jesus; proclaiming "My Lord and my God" (John 20:28). To preach the Gospel St Thomas visited India in the year AD 52. He was speared to death as he prayed kneeling on a stone at what is now known as St. Thomas's Mount, Mylapore near Chennai on 21st December 72. His body was brought to Mylapore and buried inside the church built by himself.

We celebrated the Feast with various programmes from 18-12-2009 to 21-12-2009 under the leadership of Pallibhagam and Naduvattom prayer groups. After the Holy Eucharist on 18th Friday, the vicar Rev. Fr. K M Varghese hoisted the flag signalling the start of parish feast. On the same evening, intercessional prayer, flag hoisting and Holy blessings were arranged at St. Thomas Shrine. Holy mass celebrated on 19th and 20th at Church. After the Prayer of Dawn on 20th , Rev. Fr. Rajan Varghese had given the inspirational spiritual message.

The lights on the trees twinkled softly and several people spent minutes in quiet prayer inside the shrine, before filing out to take their position for the Solemn Procession. The loudspeaker played a host of devotional songs, and there was a sense of anticipation. An array of sparkling, flowery fireworks went off loudly into the night, signalling the arrival of procession. In the ostentatious procession, hundreds of people carried decorated umbrellas, bright flags and lighted candles adding to the colour of the evening.

The feast of St Thomas celebrated with great Pomp & Fervour with over 1000 faithful attending a Concelebrated High Mass on 21st Monday. His Grace Yacub Mar Irenious (cochin diocese) was the main celebrant. Solemn procession, payaer at cemetery and Holy Blessings followed. A week-long perunnal officially concluded with the "Kodiyirakku" (lowering of the flag) at 10.30 AM. After the services, the parishioners and visiting guests enjoyed a festive luncheon.
